This week's theme immediately made me think of Melbourne, Australia.
I spent a grey 10 days there in October 2010.
It was early spring, and although we had some sunny days, most were not.
Head on over to Written Inc for some more grey pictures.
St Kilda Beach
Shrine of Remembrance
Grey harbour
Old grey sailing ship
The Yarra River
Yarra, with grey bridge and grey water
Have a sunny blue day today, everyone!
You've made grey look appealing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Martin. It doesn't look so appealing in my hair, though...

Such a beautiful depiction of Melbourne - which is often grey. I hope that blue skies and happiness are your lot at home.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do love Melbourne, but you are right - it is often grey. This murky, moody day matched the spirit of that particular trip. I want to go back and see it through different eyes.
DeleteLovely photos, I particularly like the way you have taken the Shrine of Remembrance. But I do remember grey clouds like those!! We had them in the UK!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gilly. I guess you don't have many now, though!
DeleteGrey Harbor, I like it!
ReplyDeleteI guess I've got plenty of grey in my current post, now that I look at it sideways.
~
There is a fair amount of grey there, whichever way you look at it! My husband is a golf fanatic, but he hates playing in the rain - are wet days good for golf for you?
DeleteBeautiful pictures, even if it was a little grey out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Max. It matched my mood perfectly that day!
DeleteEven being a mostly grey trip, you certainly captured the beauty completely. Your second photo is amazing, with such direct points, giving us that look upward feel. Of course the ship is beyond words, and I was lucky to spot one on my last trip to California. Your post just goes to show how lovely a grey day can be!
ReplyDeleteMelbourne can be very hot in the summer, but this day was as cold and as bleak as it looks. I loved the ship - in summer they take tourists out on it. Thank you for your kind comments:)
DeleteThe first two are amazing... those clouds look ominous an the DOP of the second one is dramatic....
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissy! The clouds did eventually live up to that ominous look with some very heavy rain. I was pleased with the second one - thanks for commenting.
DeleteI love this series, because even though Mother Nature painted the scenes with grey, you found a way to pull out the little bits of color wherever you went. I often hear from friends that I'm wasting my time shooting when it's cloudy. I look to pics like this as proof that even when the sky is covered, you can find beauty. Great work, as ever!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carmi. I was pleased with the red office block and the yellow ramp in the 5th one.
DeleteThat's one of the things I love about grey-tinged photos: they seem to pop that much more strongly when a little bit of color is introduced into them. It's not easy to expose for, but you've done so masterfully here.
DeleteThat ship is breath-taking! I also really like the angel for the 2nd photo.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Cheers Lisa!
DeleteI spent some time looking for the angel in the second one... ;)
wonderful picture...gray makes such a good backdrop
ReplyDeleteThank you CC - you're right, and the contrast with light or colour always works well.
DeleteI don't care if it's a grey day, I still want to walk along that beach. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteIt was really cold - not beach-walking weather. Soon after I took this, rain happened...
DeleteToo bad there wasn't more sunshine then, Alexia. We had similar weather in London this spring. Next January we are hoping for some good Melbourne weather.
ReplyDeleteJim's Thematic Photographic posts
..
I hope you get it, Jim! It is a beautiful city, whatever the weather.
DeleteGreat group of gray shots. I'm sure those gray skies didn't stop anyone form enjoying those wonderful locations.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit to my old gray shed.
Thank you for visiting. I loved your old grey shed!
DeleteThe red and yellow on the side of the Yarra River accentuate the greyness of the river especially as the shot follows that of the magnificent grey ship.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob. I was really pleased with that one.
Deleteliking that first one
ReplyDelete:)
Thank you, mmp :)
Deleteoh i don't mind those grey gloomy days! sometimes those kind of days are perfect for...just...relaxing...and thinking.
ReplyDeletei love all your GREY shots, alexia...the ship!!! the beach! the shrine!! beautiful greys!!
Thank you Laura :D
DeleteEven a grey day can be beautiful if you view it like you have!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, and for commenting, petunia :)
