Thematic Photographic 186: Past Its Prime

I have always wanted to do a trip which follows the ancient Silk Road route(s). I will do it one day. In the meantime, I have to make do with photos I took 2 years ago at the site of a Caravanserai in central Turkey. This place was certainly Past its Prime, but that only added to its appeal. When I look at these I can feel the heat, hear the insects, smell the Turkish tobacco the attendant was smoking:

  1. Sooo evocative. My partner loves Turkey and has been back twice. Your photos and his tell me why.
    Thank you.

  3. Wow. Look at that staircase! Wild.
Things built before the existence of safety laws and people suing all the time, when people were expected to rely on their own wits, often amuse me. No doubt, I'd be clutching the wall on that case!

    I love your tunnel shot.

  6. For sure that staircase looks so easy from here, but in real life, I'm not so sure. Your opening photo is one I'd bring out my notebook for. It just opens my inspiration right now. All your past its prime photos are just what Carmi is looking for. What an amazing theme, although I was feeling a bit on the greyish-blue side, (kind of still am) as our weather has been so gloomy too, it's time for a bright something right!

  7. EC - If I could, I would go back to Turkey tomorrow! Thank you.

Lisa and Laura - yes, I was happy with the tunnel shot :)

Bob and ifthethunder - I liked the carriage too. You still see similar ones in use, drawn by donkeys!

Karen - hope you're feeling on the lighter-bluish side by now!

Filip - Hi, thank you for commenting :)

  9. Look at that blue sky! It's interesting to see in the different comments what jumps out at different people. Great photos, as always.
