Thematic Photographic: Favourite shots

Carmi over at Written Inc has once again suggested that we finish off the year 
with some of the pictures we've liked most of the ones we've taken in 2011, 
whether we've already posted them or not.

Here's my first pick; I took it only a week ago, on a walk on the Tunnel Loop track 
through the Karangahake Gorge. 
I like it because of the textures and the shapes:

 

I'm looking forward to seeing other people's choices :)

    I;m not surprised this is a favourite shot. I love seeing anything growing in/around rocks, and the shapes of these roots around the rocks are stunning. The hard and the fluid together.

    Great picture - the close up of the roots growing out and around the rocks. Nice! and I agree with Lisa about the hobbitesque feel of the picture.

    That tree is really hanging on for dear life isn't it? Or it is strangling the rocks.

    This in incredible and did I see a little red hat move across the screen! With toes that curl and stripes on a shirt! Oh I think I did!

    LOVE this!! the rock...the crawling roots...i'm wondering the same thing as a few others have mentioned...are the hobbits hiding?!
    i know. you said you were walking the hobbit on a leash...but the OTHER hobbits...the ones peering up between the rocks...
