This man reads the paper near the Library in a small town neighbouring the one I live in.
His dog waits patiently for his attention.
The sculpture has a lovely restful air. Many times I have seen people sitting close beside
him to have a photo taken - he never seems to mind their presumption,
but continues to look calmly across the street.

Hah this reminds me of a sculpture of a seated pilgrim in Burgos in Spain. I sat next to him without thinking of asking his permission- as did many others I am sure! Photo is at the bottom of this blog post. http://chemincamino08.blogspot.com/2008/07/11-june.html
ReplyDeleteThat's a great sculpture, honoring not some heroic deed, but just the mundane act of relaxing with a newspaper and a pet. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI've always rather liked this type of sculpture. The Utah Shakespeare Festival has one of the Bard on a bench so folks can cuddle up and take a photo, just like this guy.
ReplyDeleteKiwi - I checked out your picture - nice. My son walked the Camino about 3 years ago... he loved it.
ReplyDeleteMax & ET - The town has some great murals which I plan to post sometime.
It reminds me either of James Joice in Dublin or of Fernando Pessoa in Lisbon. I am not sure anymore... Maybe both?
ReplyDeleteI love this kind of sculptures. They're fun!
