Sunday Snapshot

Yes I know how predictable I'm being!
Everyone who goes to St Peter's in Rome takes a photo of the Swiss Guards. Why should I be any different?

They were rather gorgeous.

The Pontifical Swiss Guards are the official army of The Vatican City state. They must be Swiss citizens and Catholics. And male. They were formed in 1506 and their uniform is modelled on the Renaissance style.

  3. Same for me, I've never seen them before, and that's a great picture of the two of them. Kinda looks like a couple of Court Jesters.

I'm going to add the above comment to my post - thanks guys. I was assuming that people would know about them, but I forget that not eveyone is a history nut, which I am :)

My, the last time I saw Swiss Guards was in 1984. It's been awhile.
