Yes I know how predictable I'm being!
Everyone who goes to St Peter's in Rome takes a photo of the Swiss Guards. Why should I be any different?
They were rather gorgeous.
The Pontifical Swiss Guards are the official army of The Vatican City state. They must be Swiss citizens and Catholics. And male. They were formed in 1506 and their uniform is modelled on the Renaissance style.

Oh my! Just look at those uniforms! Not going to miss them in a crowd are you?
ReplyDeletePredictable or not "I" had never seen this before so thanks for sharing.
Thanks Sally! Aren't they hilarious?
ReplyDeleteSame for me, I've never seen them before, and that's a great picture of the two of them. Kinda looks like a couple of Court Jesters.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to add the above comment to my post - thanks guys. I was assuming that people would know about them, but I forget that not eveyone is a history nut, which I am :)
They should have worn the uniforms with the BIG stripes.
ReplyDeleteI've actually never seen the Swiss guards. Thanks.
I don't know--I might feel a bit silly in those uniforms. Great photo!
ReplyDeleteIt happens in London too...just different clothing...and hats...But these gentlemen are quite charming..and handsome!) they just brighten up where ever they may be! Thanks for sharing these two!

ReplyDeleteMy, the last time I saw Swiss Guards was in 1984. It's been awhile.
