That perches in

And sings the
tune without the words,
And never stops
at all

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,--
When he beats his bars and he would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart’s deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings--
I know why the caged bird sings!
~ Paul Laurence Dunbar

Feathered enchantment - and both poems are ones I am very fond of too. Thank you,
ReplyDeleteI love those bird pics!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that shag and the gulls on the dock are waiting for their ship to return.

What a start with that black swan, I was hooked before I saw the rest of these wonderful photos. Great poems too.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see different birds from the ones we have! I was surprised to see the swan tagged round its neck - here we ring birds on their legs, including swans! Mr.G used to be a qualified ringer when he had the energy to pad round fields and woods all day, but not now! Those black backed gulls look similar to ours - they all have that beady eye out for the chance of a meal!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, thank you!
