Cue the sun

Thematic Photographic's theme this past week was 'Welcome Summer'.

Maybe I'm the only TP participant who lives in the southern hemisphere, where it is, at the moment, anything but summery. Reading the joyful posts of all those people who are enjoying the warmth of summer, lapping up beaches and holidays, I didn't really feel that I had anything to contribute.
I did however love looking at all the beautiful and interesting photos they posted to herald the season; if you'd like to see them, go here.
What made me decide to put a late post up, just so that I could say I hadn't missed Theme # 201, was marking my students' assignments on The Truman Show; my Year 11 class (16 yr-olds) and I have just finished our study of this excellent movie. Many of them chose to write about the concept of control and the abuse of power in the film, and one of the quotes that was often discussed was when Christof decides they'll never find Truman in the dark, and demands: "Cue the sun".

My thoughts exactly.
I'm looking forward to when our sun is cued, and is accompanied by
some lovely warmth, instead of heavy frosts.

Have a spectacular weekend, everyone!

  1. I know the feeling, I feel it every winter looking at your beautiful summer photos. I do love that line "Cue the sun". I may not like winter, but your summer pictures help get me through it. Have a great winter!

  2. The magnolias are getting their buds ready and there are buds on many trees around our town, so Spring must be coming. Cannot be too soon in my book, We had a thick frost this morning and I don't think it got into double figures all day.
Truman is a good movie too and those are cool ideas from your students.

    1. Thanks Kiwi - we have a few camellias out, so that's something, I guess!

  3. The US East Coast is in triple digits and being ravaged by hurricane-like storms. Out in the West, we have scorching temperatures and horrible wildfires due to drought conditions. (Colorado has the worst fire, but Utah has 8 huge fires burning right now.)
Personally, I'd love to be welcoming winter right now.

    1. Lisa - I may want summer at the moment, but I definitely don't want the summer some parts of the US are having!! Stay cool.

  4. We have no power at the W.V. house after the lightning came through last night.

Fall and spring have a lot to recommend them!

  5. I prefer autumn (fall). Just warm enough to keep me out of woolens, but not so warm stripping naked isn't gonna keep me cool enough.

    1. I love that time of year too, especially as we usually have really nice settled weather then.

  6. Even though it's technically summer here, we're back to dense cloud cover and rain, rain, rain..."Cue the sun!"

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. Thanks laura. Things sound so bad where you are just now - fires, storms, heat waves...
Maybe I should just be content with what I have :)
