Thematic Photographic 122: Electric

I have to admit that I found this one quite hard - and I've been amazed and envious at the clever interpretations that all the other TPs have been posting.

With no inspiration, I've gone for some lights:

this is a light that Gaudi made, which is on the ceiling of the main 'salon' in the Casa Batllo in Barcelona.  It was inspired, as was most of his designing, by the natural forms of nature.  The man did NOT like straight lines - and all of this house references the sea, and sea life; this light makes me think of sea urchins:

This shot was taken in the Blue Mosque, in Istanbul.  I love the atmosphere these lights helped to create:

And a picture from a silk shop in Bursa, also in Turkey:

Finally, an example of the light fittings in my house.  I can't stand them, but they were here when we bought it, and I can't afford to replace them!!! *sob*

  1. What an interesting blog, Alexia! I'm going to pass this on to my niece in London who is a mad keen photographer. Thank you for your comment on my aubergine post - glad you were inspired! If you put me on your favourite blogs list, I'd be delighted.

  2. Love these lights! All have such interesting designs! The first photo does remind me of a sea urchin or anemone! Must be that outline shape looks like cresting waves!

I too am a teacher - from Australia - interested in many things!

  3. Great pictures. It took me 14 years in the same house to get around to replacing all the light fixtures that were there. I've got one left, but it's in the laundry room so who knows when I'll get around to it.

  5. Thank you all for your kind comments about my photos!

Max - lol you're doing better than me; we've been in this house for over 20 years. Admittedly I have replaced all of the others...

Anne - delighted to add you! I do feel as if I already follow you in a sense, as I always read Stoatspring - I love Harvey's posts on his memories and ideas about so many different subjects.

  6. very cool shots!!

i especially like the first fixture...the design...reminds me of water...ocean...the way it flows...
OH, and the Istanbul street shot with the little twinkle lights, setting the mood...very nice!
OH, yes! and the ones hanging in the silk shop!! those're pretty unique! like little tie-dye globes...looks so 60ish...(if i'm remembering them correctly...it's EARLY...that was my first impression...)

and then...YOUR lights...if u can't afford to replace them...maybe you can DO something to them to make them more YOU??

i like 'em ALL! cool electric pic's!

  7. Very nice entries for electric, especially the first light, it's like layers of lighting...very neat, and of course the stain glass windows beauty glimmers sweetly and I too had the very same light fixture when we bought this house...thank goodness it was replaced....my mother hated it the most which can be a good thing when Mothers come bearing gifts to replace the things that bother her most! lol

  9. I feel your pain re. the fixtures the house came with. Ours has some doozies, but there's always some other priority. As long as they work, they stay.

    Someday...

Fortunately you retain the gifted ability to capture beauty wherever you go. Gaudi? Wow! I have ALWAYS loved his work. The Sagrada Familia is probably the most incredible architectural story of all (and a great Alan Parsons tune, too!)

You have such a neat way of taking themes and making them your own. I really appreciate that!
