In 2016, I read 98 books.
That total was made up of a number of different genres, which I have broadly divided into the groups you can see in the pie chart.
Some of the labels cover a very wide range, especially the three largest groups. It seems odd to put, say, Kate Atkinson and Stuart MacBride into the same group! Really, any author worth their salt needs a label of their own...
I have happily adopted the 'Speculative Fiction' label, as it seems much more encompassing than either 'Sci-Fi' or 'Fantasy'. I couldn't put Guy Gavriel Kay into either of those categories, but Speculative is (almost) one-size-fits-all...
I like the term Speculative Fiction and have used it since my college days. And prefer books which cannot be neatly pigeon-holed into any genre. I haven't categorised my reading for the year that was but suspect it is not dissimiliar to yours.
ReplyDeleteYay for reading. Long may it continue.
Indeed! I suspect that last year you read a great many more than this, EC - but when I took a quick look just now, your list had disappeared! You are more organised than I am - I am still sorting them out. I must admit that I put the books I have read on here as a way of keeping track of mny reading. I intend to post the ones I liked most in 2016 when I can.
DeleteI hope it's not too hot for you at the moment.
Wow, your reading is incredible! Your top choice is mine as well!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! I've always read a lot, and being officially retired helps...
DeleteHappy New Year to you and yours!
Congrats, Alexia!
ReplyDeleteBy comparison, I just wasted lots of time on the internet.

ha - I do that too, sometimes :)
DeleteI have to keep track of what I read, so that I don't come home from the library with books and then find I've already read them...
I agree that any of these categories can be broken down into far more specific and useful niches. But it's still neat to see how diversely we read. What were your favorite Crime-ish books this year?
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of books!
ReplyDeleteSomething that we say which means that life is hard and unpleasant I have got to go to have custom essay writing services, then cook a meal then pick Dave up from the station. It’s a dog's life Charlie rescues a stray from other dogs and together they meet Edna after finding a wallet full of cash.
