Blurred vision

Thematic Photographic 253:

I am always trying to take photos of birds.
They are never very successful because I don't have the right lens - but I keep trying.
Carmi's theme this week allows me to post some blurry birds.

These are seagulls, disturbed by Manu barking at them:

I spotted this blue heron from the road
but by the time I stopped the car and grabbed my camera, he was getting airborne:

and gaining height:

  1. Alexia, these are great bird shooting photos, and something, oh so similar to my own attempts to catch a perfect shot!

  2. Inconsiderate birds, always flying around making our pictures blurry. But I do love the flurry captured in the first picture, great for this theme.

    1. Thanks Max - yes, why can't they stay still for a few seconds.... :)

  3. Oh I know the feeling.

Just taking pics of the carpenter bees is trying for me lately, because the macro function on my current camera (aka the old camera) is so poor.

But the thing is...YOU SAW THEM!

    1. Well done for reminding me about the important thing, thunder. Sometimes we're so busy taking photos that we don't actually stop and enjoy the view!

  4. What I especially love about this series is how you've shared the experience around them. That makes them infinitely richer than they would otherwise be. On their own, they're compelling shots. With the additional context, I can almost feel the experience!

    1. Thank you Carmi - you always write such great commentaries around your shots, and they certainly enhance the meanings.

  6. Birds are sooooo frustrating the way that they refuse to accept direction. Just the same, I loved your gulls and your heron.

  7. I wanted to take birds in flight, but the little ******* just sat there looking at me!

Your shots are lovely, and I like the heron very much.

    1. I tried again today with a cormorant at the harbour, but he decided to take off in a hurry as well!

      Thanks Gilly.

  8. I have some great pictures of herons but all from a distance with a long lens. Getting one in flight is so much more difficult, Gulls are much more difficult unless they are waiting to be fed.

    1. You're right Bob.
I'm hoping to be able to get a long lens later this year...
